Are these stones the same thickness at the standard kme diamond stones? I’m wondering if I need the kme stone thickness compensator to make the Jande stone work properly?

Yes, they are different to the KME stones. I suggest always compensating for stone thickness of you want great sharpening results, even between stones of the same brand. If you measure KME stones of different grits and/or different manufacturing batches you'll find that they vary in thickness also.

The best way to get very accurate results, would be to use the aftermarket KME multifunction frame and a digital angle cube. With this frame, you can adjust your angles using a fine tuning thread to set the perfect angles. When you change stones, use a digital angle cube again and adjust to the same angle as the previous stone. It is far more accurate than using the KME thickness compensator.
